Diane Venora is a leading stage, television and film actress who attended the Juilliard School on  scholarship.  She has performed Shakespeare extensively, starring in Joseph Papp’s production of Hamlet at the New York Shakespeare Festival. She was the first American to play the title role at the prestigious showcase. She has a long history with Hamlet, playing Ophelia opposite Kevin Kline and Gertrude onscreen opposite Ethan Hawke.  TV credits include Law & Order, Chicago Hope, NCIS and Grey’s Anatomy.  Film credits include Heat with Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino, Romeo+Juliet with  Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, and The Insider with Russell Crowe, Al Pacino and Christopher Plummer.

This FULL Day workshop will include a variety of acting techniques Diane has collected from her early years at Julliard to her success on Broadway and in headlining films.  She will incorporate her experience working with Patsy Rodenburg (National Theatre Co), David Mamet, and Cicely Berry (Royal Shakespeare Co).   Students must come prepared with a one-minute monologue.

Youth Acting I, Ages 7-13: This class is an introduction to stage productions, including auditions, theatre terminology, stage direction, improvisation, monologues and short scenes.  Class will be about having FUN and will incorporate games into the learning process.  Instructor: Bill Collins, Fridays, 3:30pm-4:30pm

Westside Performing Arts Company will be presenting “Masquerade” on Saturday, July 30th. The production is a Broadway musical revue featuring popular numbers from:

Directed by Trish Harris, the performance includes the outcome of an academy  training over 40 community members in acting, dancing and singing.  Held at McLaughlin Theater on the Sequoia Middle School campus, show times are 2:00pm and 7:00pm. REDDING, CA — Westside Performing Arts Company, a non-profit professional performing arts company and an auxiliary of the Shasta County Arts Council, is preparing for its fourth year of musical theatre instruction. Led by Artistic Director Trish Harris, the company will be offering a Spring and Summer Theatre Academy again this year.

The Spring Theatre Academy is for youths ages 7-18 years of age and will be held over Spring Break, April 25th through April 29th, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Students will be taught numbers from age-appropriate Broadway musicals, affording them the opportunity to improve skills and techniques in acting, singing and dancing. The Summer Theatre Academy is a six-week intensive program for ages 7 to adult held during June & July. Last year there were over forty participants with a wide range of experience; however, for both academies, there are opportunities for all levels to participate, whether someone is a beginner or a seasoned performer. In addition to musical theatre skills, the program includes an auditioning workshop. Instructors are all trained professionals in their area of expertise.
